Unit overview
In this unit, students:
- engage with a variety of texts representing both First Nations and non-Indigenous people’s perspectives; learning to appreciate a diversity of voices
- analyse ideas and perspectives in speeches
- learn about the use of persuasive language techniques and what creates an effective speech
- examine the ways speeches have contributed to the discourse of reconciliation between First Nations Peoples and non-Indigenous Australians
- develop awareness of the ways context affects the writing and delivery of oral texts.
To best prepare for this unit it will be useful to complete the ‘Contexts for reconciliation’ unit, as it will provide a foundation on ‘reconciliation’, ‘context’ and ‘perspective’. Alternatively, you can address these concepts in your own way as they arise in the lessons.
