Birak Concert is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities, experienced through music, dance, art and food. Birak is the Noongar season for December and January and during this time the Moodjar tree flowers bright orange.
In local dreaming, it is said that when a Noongar person passes away their spirit enters the tree where they wait for Birak. When the tree flowers, their spirit goes west over Weidjemup (Rottnest Island) to be with their ancestors.
Birak Concert will host the Elder Zone for Elders to celebrate Birak, with activities and rides free for all to enjoy at Langley Park. Birak Concert promises fun for all Australians to join in celebrating Aboriginal culture, beginning with a traditional Welcome to Country and flag raising ceremony.
Remember to bring your picnic blanket, sunscreen and hat to enjoy the event throughout the day until the Skyworks in the evening.
This event has not been organised by the Australians Together team. However, it may provide a valuable opportunity for you to continue your journey of listening to Indigenous people and building relationships in the future. Please contact the event organisers for further information.
