It's not hard to look back at the history of colonisation in this country and see that authorities mistreated First Nations people. But paternalistic policies that serve to criminalise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aren’t simply a thing of our past.

The Intervention was a set of policies introduced by the Howard government in 2007 in response to the Little Children are Sacred report (2007), which claimed that neglect and sexual abuse of children in Aboriginal communities had reached crisis levels.
