Unit overview
In this unit, students will:
- recognise and appreciate the contribution of First Nations knowledges to Western science
- consider how First Nations science thinking and Western science thinking may be used together to improve the state of the environment
- recognise the benefits of approaching science from different perspectives
- develop an understanding of the meaning of Country to First Nations Peoples and consider the impacts that may have on how science is conducted
- examine biases in relation to First Nations science knowledges
- explore and reflect on their own culture and cultural lenses
- develop an understanding of First Nations cultures and cultural ways of knowing, being and doing
- consider global issues using understanding of First Nations science and cultural knowledges
- apply and demonstrate their learning in a short report to evaluate a global issue from both Western science and First Nations knowledge viewpoints.
