Unit overview

In this unit, students will:

  • explore a place that’s special to them
  • consider what ‘Country’ is and First Nations people’s connection to Country/Place
  • create sketches in nature
  • consider the importance of caring for Country
  • analyse artworks by First Nations artists that explore visual conventions, processes and materials
  • explore how some First Nations artists use natural materials to create art that connects them to Country
  • create an artwork representing their special place using natural materials
  • explore the use of lines and patterns used in some First Nations artworks to connect to Country
  • identify the link between stories, art and Country for First Nations artists
  • share and communicate their connection to a special place.
