Unit overview
In this unit, students will:
- explore identity and belonging as expressed in music through the lens of First Nations musicians and their collaborations with non-Indigenous musicians
- analyse the lyrics and themes of various First Nations and non-Indigenous artists’ music that respond to historical and cultural contexts
- reflect on their own cultural identity and what it means to be Australian, developing critical perspectives on colonialism and cultural heritage through musical exploration
- understand elements of music and the expressive outcomes music can create for the listener
- create original compositions and performances that challenge and redefine Australian identity, guided by various musical examples.
